Here are two independent home/distance lessons for Year 9 students starting the GCSE course after the Easter holidays.

I teach at one of the 9 HUB schools for MFL teaching and follow the NCELP recommendations for MFL pedagogy. (https://ncelp.org/)

I have included a PDF version of a Unit 1 vocab sheet which students can use as additional support.

The first lesson is a 60-minute powerpoint with a Quizlet set of 20 terms focusing on the possessive ‘de’ and family members. Includes a simple grammar tutorial on avoiding the possessive apostrophe. There’s a listening and reading from the 1.1G spread in Kerboodle. Contains links to different games/quizzes on Languages Online which link directly to the lesson content. All answers are included and there are clear text boxes where students add their scores for each task. Finally there are two optional extension tasks for students who wish to deepen their knowledge and further their progress.

The second lesson is a 30-minute powerpoint with the same Quizlet set (but using different tabs to deepen knowledge of the vocabulary). Next is a task on memorising trickier family vocabulary such as ‘el nieto’ and ‘la suegra’ with a ‘random phrase spinner’ for students to test themselves. Then there’s a listening and translating task with an audio I recorded to reinforce the possessive ‘de’ and family members vocabulary. Finally there’s a parallel translation to reinforce the same grammar point using reading and writing skills. Extension tasks for this lesson are a Sporcle quiz, a YouTube video and ProProfs quiz.

All hyperlinks are included on the slides but URLs are also included in the ‘notes’ section for the relevant slides, just in case.

Both lessons have a ‘score sheet’ on slide 1 for easy viewing if students are handing in on Google Classroom (saves A LOT of scrolling time when giving digital feedback!).
