Huang He River Valley/ Yellow River Valley/ Ancient China-Exhibition Project
Overview: Educational research has shown that the best way to retain knowledge is to understand it to the extent that you could teach it to someone else. This activity will help you to do just that as you discover the
Geographic and cultural influences of the Ancient Chinese civilization, how they explained their early history, why they fell, their philosophies, as well as their life and culture. Once you comprehend an assigned aspect of these larger concepts, you will “teach” it to the rest of the class.
Task: In small groups you will be assigned a subtopic that falls under the main topic of Ancient China. These topics include:
1. Geographic and Cultural Influences
2. The Shang Dynasty
3. The Zhou, Qin, and Han Dynasties
4. Philosophies and Ancient China
5. Chinese Life and Culture
Your job will be to complete research and create an exhibit that thoroughly explains your subtopic. You will be given time in the Media Center and Computer Lab to compile information outside of your textbook. Once you have completed your exhibit, you will be required to present it and all of the information covered by your subtopic to the class.
Requirements For Exhibit: Your exhibit will cover all of the information outlined for each subtopic on the “Planning Guidelines” handout. Your exhibit may include any of the formats listed on the “Planning Guidelines” or any other formats that you wish (and are approved by your teacher).
