A series of six lessons that allows students to analyse Hurricane Hits England by Grace Nichols.
In first lesson, students read the poem and develop an understanding of Nichols’ influences.
In the second lesson, students apply their understanding of the poem and the presentation of the speaker’s feelings to develop their own creative writing skills.
In the third lesson, students work in small groups to analyse the language of the poem in greater detail.
In the fourth lesson, students plan to write an extended response to analyse the poem and write their answers in the fifth lesson - could be used as an assessment.
The sixth lesson is a drama lesson where students re-enact the poem as a TV news article.
