Islamic Art (geometric patterns and ceramic tiles)

Resources for an introduction to Islamic art scheme of work. Originally developed for art & design, but may be useful in maths, too. Year 7 students researched traditional Islamic geometric and floral patterns using the internet and books. These inspired their own geometric tile designs. Designs were drawn and coloured on the template shapes, then made in clay. Students decorated their tiles by scratching into the surface and creating relief patterns in clay, then painting tiles with coloured glazes.
