ACTIVITY 1 - Jobs, Time & Money - Give your student’s a pretend job (Job A, B, C, D, E) OR let them choose their own job!
- Either tell them their hourly wage (for each job) OR get them to research the hourly wage for their chosen jobs.
- Now get them to complete the template provided by calculating the daily, weekly, monthly and annual salary.
- Once calculated, tell them that the government takes away a BIG chunk, as does the NHS … then you’ve got other BILLS to pay! Just watch their faces drop … definitely a wake up call and an introduction to adult working life!

ACTIVITY 2 - Income Tax, Bills & Take Home Pay - Once the shock has settled in, give them the next activity to complete.
- Get them to calculate the ‘take home pay’ for each job after deducting tax, NHS and pension contributions.
