If any rodent can be regarded as cute, the Kangaroo Rat can. In its quick darting action and its ability to hop quickly in and out of its burrows its a bit like the meerkats of Africa in its behaviour. This unit introduces students to the Kangaroo Rat. Ten of its adaptations are listed and these provide an opportunity for class discussion when the lists are projected on the screen. If, however you prefer, black and white attachments are provided so that hard copies can be provided for in class lessons or as homework activities. This unit can be used at upper Primary and Lower-Mid Secondary levels. It is a standalone unit or it can add to examples when studying hot desert lands. Search the WEB and you will find more information about the Kangaroo Rat.
