A 1-2 hour lesson suitable for Year 7 & Year 8 focusing on the photographer Karl Blossfeldt and tonal pencil shading techniques.

This lesson was graded a 1 (Outstanding) in a recent observation.

Lesson includes: Do it now task, homework, starter activity and plenary. There is information about the artist included, pencil grading, exemplar material and peer assessment slides to allow students to assess their progress. This lesson could be taught in one hour but can also be extended over 2 hours.

Tonal pencil starter sheet and peer assessment sheet are also included.

The lesson has been differentiated for high and low ability pupils but other differentiation (e.g. tonal scale finder) could be used in order to help students see and understand values.

This lesson is currently taught within a Natural Forms scheme of work.
