I've been teaching in KS1 & EYFS for five years in schools in both Scotland and England. I really enjoy making resources, especially with the increase of cartoons and pointless illustrations appearing on more and more resources which I find online. I try to keep resources clear and simple, making them accessible and attractive to children- and teachers too!

This is an open ended and easy to differentiate starter activity.

The children are required to use their knowledge of repeated addition and/or multiplication to solve the problems.

More able children can make the activity very open ended either independently or with support, less able children may only manage the first part of the activity and could use concrete resources to help them.

I used this with a mixed ability Year 2 class to consolidate word problem skills however this could be used in a range of maths settings.
