What was life like for a child in the Victorian era?
OUTSTANDING KS2 History

This excellent resources includes 5 detailed lessons, all starting with an engaging inquiry question;

  1. What sort of life did the person who owned this suitcase lead?
  2. Was life for children from upper class families as good as it looked?
  3. Were workhouses to be considered as a last resort?
  4. How different are schools today compared to the Victorian age?
  5. Did wealth determine happiness in the Victorian era?

The key historical enquiry skills that children will use are; evidence handling, making inferences, using sources and looking at how the past can be represented in different ways.

For the 5 lessons you would need to source; Victorian artefacts, images of Victorian children and families, written and visual sources linking to Victorian life, Victorian paintings, stories which depict Victorian life, recording devices (optional) and magnifying glasses (optional).
