N.B. This lesson can easily be used in preparation for a speaking/writing assessments, or as an improvement task following a speaking/writing assessment.

- Ideal for learners of KS3 and lower KS4 Spanish, as the lesson includes plenty of scaffolding and differentiation.
- Total of 5 files in the package: a PowerPoint for the lesson which includes all slides, an exit pass plenary, a 'Synonyms Hunt' sheet, and two differentiated version of the group activity worksheet (for higher and lower ability students).

- Resources aims to expand the vocabulary of students with specific focus on adjectives. Students are encouraged to find and then apply synonyms to pieces of writing to improve the 'variety of language' and to 'avoid repetition', both of which are a crucial part of the new Spanish GCSE curriculum.
- Tasks include scaffolding to render activities as accessible as possible for students, as well as extension activities for more able students.
- Resources make close links to literacy in English, such as exploring the meaning, role and importance of using synonyms. Some activities involving antonyms for higher-ability students.
- Differentiated worksheets are provided throughout (for higher- and lower-ability students) and most activities include a Genius Task and Genius Task+ as extensions. This lesson can easily be used for a mixed ability class. All worksheets have editing enabled in case you would like to further differentiate for your class.
- Colour-coding is used for texts to make material more accessible to students with dyslexia or low literacy.
- Examples of synonyms and why we need them are given in English to help students form cross-curricular links. They should have seen something similar in their English language class.
- Element of competition with 'banned words', which are 'divertido/a' (fun) and 'aburrido' (boring), as well as 'synonym hunt' and 'challenge'. Gives plenty of opportunity to reward and praise students for effort and success.
