This is an introductory lesson to Henry VIII and his personality using Privy Council payments from November 1529.
Students start by creating a spider diagram about Henry VIII. Students are then challenged to make points about their new teacher by using some information about items that the teacher has purchased in the last few weeks. (Examples are included on the powerpoint but are related to me so you will want to alter these.) Students are challenged to back their points with evidence. Once students have done this they are given a copy of the Privy Council payments from November 1529. This details a number of payments of Henry VIII. They need to make points about Henry and his personality using the payments sheets and then support with evidence from the payments sheet on a table. Students then use their tables to create a PEE paragraph about Henry VIII. Sentence starters have been included with the lesson. Students complete the lesson by adding new information to their spider diagram from the start of the lesson. I normally do this in a different coloured pen to show progress.
