KS3/KS4 Circumference of a Circle double lesson bundle

A 2 lesson bundle for circumference of a circle suitable for both KS3 and KS4.
‘Activate’ tasks are teacher-led examples.
‘Demonstrate’ tasks are independent student tasks.

Lesson 1

1. ActivInspire flipchart demonstrating how to work out the circumference of a circle
2. Starter task based on fluency questions, unrelated to this topic
3. An investigation tasks for students to discover the link between diameter and circumference (I gave students various circular objects, a metre ruler and a piece of string to measure and students recorded their results in the table)
4. A well designed worksheet which includes circles with the diameter or radius given
5. Challenge task included looking at the perimeter of semi-circles, 1/4 circles, 3/4 circles and compound shapes involving circles
6. Flipchart contains all answers to the tasks

Lesson 2

1. ActivInspire flipchart demonstrating how to find the circumference of circles and compound shapes with circles
2. Starter task based on parts of a circle
3. Mini-whiteboard task to recap lesson 1 learning
4. Bronze, Silver, Gold progress check linking to differentiated task
5. Silent demo task on calculating diameter and radius from the circumference
6. Literacy Link - picking out keywords that mean to find the perimeter/circumference
7. GCSE Problem Solving questions
