A fully resourced KS3 PSHE lesson exploring body confidence, self-esteem and the impact of social media on wellbeing.
Students examine the difference between body confidence and self-esteem, reflecting on what makes a person valuable and how self-perception can be influenced by external pressures. Through discussion and enquiry-based activities, students explore how comparison, appearance ideals and social media can affect the way people feel about themselves.
The lesson investigates the difference between social media and reality, helping students understand how carefully selected online content can influence confidence and body image. Students consider the impact of comparison and unrealistic expectations on both boys and girls.
Students also learn that eating disorders are serious mental health conditions, exploring how poor body image and low self-esteem can sometimes contribute to unhealthy relationships with food and eating. Appropriate support and signposting are included throughout.
Note: it is only a light touch on eating disorders due to it being a KS3 lesson.
The lesson concludes by focusing on practical ways to improve self-esteem, recognise personal strengths and build positive wellbeing habits.
