If your school is anything like mine, your parents/SLT want homework to be set but you don’t have the time to create relevant homeworks that engage or challenge students. This homework is differentiated, so that you can set all students the same homework pack but guide certain students to complete certain sections. (I told all of my students that the first two tasks were compulsory but the last section would show me who was ambitious in this class and then flagged up any student who had avoided the last task during parents evening - it became extra revision for them!)

It’s a six-week homework pack, with three sections per homework:
1. The ‘Basic Homework’ section - asking students to summarise a passage and select key quotations to explore.
2. The ‘Treat me like a GCSE student’ Homework - asking students to analyse a text or an idea, building them towards more extended writing.
3. The Extension (aka. The ‘I can be better than that’ Homework) - introducing students to wider articles/songs/literature/ideas beyond the text and asking them to find links between them (everything from chickens with dinosaur faces to the iPhone leg craze in China).
