A lovely Christmas story about an elf-fairy accidentally landing in the woods near a house. Two children find her and resolve to help her deliver her presents. The text is followed by some reading comprehension questions and exercises. There are some additional Present Simple grammar exercises and some simple vocabulary exercises.
This is the lesson plan and resources needed for children to make their own sound story/audio book for a book already written. They choose words from the pages that they will add sounds to, and then also a symbol for their chosen instrument (including voices), and then record their 'sound story.' These can then be used for lower year groups for a listening activity.

A powerpoint created for use with my year 5 literacy set. It outlines the three types of sentences and explains how to use a subordinate clause in the middle of a main clause. It also include examples at the end for the children to identify the clauses.
A set of sentences for children to add in subordinate clauses. I printed them to A3 and got the children to cut them up and add in a subordinate clause on a coloured piece of paper.
This scheme takes the group step by step through the stages of how to write a story. It is adapted from the government initiative 'Improving Childrens Writing' getting children from level 3 to level 4. I have changed it a little, so that it is also suitable for level 2 and 3 as well. Some resources you will have to get from the government published folder 'improving childrens writing'.
