Letters from the Trenches
A week long challenge for children to write a letter home as a WW1 soldier. Children first researched life in the trenches. Then I showed them the fast facts recap video and we discussed thoughts, feelings and senses in the trenches. On the 3rd day I showed them the letter from the trenches video, and they used a carousel activity with the written letters to add to their research. Finally children drafted, edited and improved their letters. I found it worked with high ability year 5/6 but would advise watching the second video before showing them as there are some distressing details.
