In this practical, child led lesson, children have their first opportunity within the Primary setting to explore electronic components and simple series circuits. By learning through exploring and trial and error, understanding is more likely to be reinforced and remembered.

This lesson has a cross curricular English link to ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes, however it can be easily adapted to suit a different cross curricular link.

Within this lesson, children are able to develop their collaboration, thinking, reasoning, observation and critical thinking skills. The ‘Tug for Truth’ thinking routine activity, requires children to explore what they believe to be true before the lesson. Children are encouraged to give a reason for their thinking and also to respect the thoughts of others. Children are given the opportunity to change their thinking throughout the lesson as they learn.

Learning is not capped and all children are able to explore more complex challenges if they are able. Challenge is shown through different colours.

This bundle includes:

  • A detailed lesson plan, referencing the National Curriculum
  • Challenge questions
  • The Iron Man head template
  • Observation sentence starters
