This lesson is designed to get students to evaluate previous methods of mapping development and then investigate more accurate methods. I used this with a high ability year 9 class on the AQA A Geography syllabus.
Students look at the first and third world divisions, the Brandt line and the MDC LDC division to pick out obvious inaccuracies. The five fold division is discussed as a more accurate method. The lesson leads onto the idea that indicators can be used to add further accuracy to mapping development.
