Subtracting using bridging tens, place value and number facts (four days).

J10 (Jump 10) is used to subtract two-digit numbers from numbers between 100 and 150, including subtractions which cross through 100, e.g. 123 – 41. Children use T10 (target the tens, 100 in particular) to count up (find a difference) to solve, find the answers to subtractions such as 123 – 78, which have ‘wider’ differences than those they have found before, and are encouraged just to draft the section of the number line they need. Subtractions are sorted according to whether children find it easier/quicker to count up (find a difference, Targeting 100) or count back (take away, using J10, counting back in tens first).
