Do you want to bring several historic periods and many events to life through the character of Cecil Gains? Cecil Gaines served eight presidents during his tenure as a butler at the White House. The civil rights movement, Vietnam, and other major events affect this man's life, family, and American society. The Butler is rated PG-13 and is a film that touches upon many topics covered in a U.S. History course. This movie is used at the end of the semester as a review resource. This lesson connects your students to history with Cecil as their guide. My students love ending the year with this activity because it touches upon and ties together many of the events covered in class!

This lesson includes an answer key and 40 questions that guide your students through the action. Questions are divided into three parts (days) with time built in to introduce or discuss.
