Discuss the extent to which environmental variables determine agricultural distribution, type and productivity

Franklin Roosevelt said “the nation which destroys the soil destroys itself” and it is true that agricultural distribution, and thus human survival used to be entirely dependent on such variables however technology is now taking over. Environmental variables are factors of physical geography such as climate, topography and relief and soil. In this essay I will assess which of these have an impact, before considering other variables which determine agriculture. I will conclude that in recent years, technology has been able to reduce the extent that agriculture relies on environmental variables.
