I agree completely with halfajack's comment below - this topic is huge and complex, and the 'freedom of speech' angle is dangerously (in my mind) simplistic in this case. We owe our students more than this

One of the resources suggests a class debate but both articles are one-sided. Of course, I don't mean there's any question that the brutal murder of the Charlie Hebdo staff was justified. I just think it's negligent as teachers to cover this topic by single-mindedly promoting 'freedom of speech' without stopping to consider the utter hypocrisy of the whole situation. France is being held up as a beacon of free speech but they were the first country in the world to ban pro-Palestinian protests and the Catholic Church in France had a fashion ad banned because it was a take-off of DaVinci's Last Supper painting. And don't get me started on the posturing of the world leaders.
