Save yourself HOURS of work with this lovely interactive resource pack providing practice materials for the pseudo words that children will encounter during the year one phonics screening check.
The pack contains 2 colourful PowerPoint presentations, 2 sets of printable flash cards, a lesson plan and an activity sheet. The resources would provide a numerous lesson and can be used year on year.
The pack focuses solely on the pseudo words as in my experience, these tend to be the words children find most challenging in the check, even for able readers.
The materials have been carefully prepared following the principles of the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) screening checks, ensuring a broad coverage of sounds including vowel digraphs and common consonant blends.
Get your class thinking and talking every morning with 200 fun challenges!
Simply put up a slide from the PowerPoint show each day, ready for the children to look at as they come in to the classroom.
Ask the children to use their imaginations, tackle design challenges and consider the properties of different materials.
Example questions:
Imagine that you have found a magic ticket. What could you use it for?
How many things can you think of that are spotty?
Can you design a new kit for a football player?
Who do you think each pair of shoes belongs to?
Make a list of things that roll.
Younger children could draw pictures to show their ideas while older children can write lists and sentences.
Also included is a grid showing the key learning objectives that will be covered for each year group. The Year 1 and 2 objectives are taken from the 2014 National Curriculum.
Suitable for any insect, minibeast or nature based study/topic - or for simply an inspiring writing lesson! This is a complete, engaging, imaginative, creative writing or Big Writing stimuli lesson that can be applied to many different writing genres. Children discuss ideas and then plan by answering the thought provoking questions which enable a wealth of ideas to be generated for the writing. Planning sheet has space for 5 sense descriptions, VCOP elements and purpose, audience and genre notes to help meet the new 2014 curriculum. Starter activity plus 2 widths of line guides/writing sheets included plus optional paragraph planning sheet, custom art sheet and self-assessment plenary activity mean that this lesson's length is flexible and could easily last for 2 hours if you wanted it to and comes with 3 different options for delivery over 1,2 or 3 lessons. Lesson is aimed at higher ability KS1 but can be used for KS2 as well.
This is a 3 week plan related to the little mermaid for Rec/year 1 children. Includes making a lost poster, retelling story, describing characters, describing a setting, invitations, postcards and writing a new story.
Are you studying the Vikings. Are you looking for photos of different objects the Vikings owned? Here is a pack of 30 different photos, drawings and paintings about the Vikings. These are a great way of getting students thinking more deeply about the lives of Vikings, and prompting them to discover more on their own.
You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different materials and activities being shown in each of photos and drawings.
You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching display about life of the Vikings.
The students could also take the laminated photos and sort them into different sorts of Viking pictures and activities. The students can then discuss how the pictures show how Vikings lived.
The photos could also be used as prompts for creative or descriptive writing.
This is a 5 day teaching unit to help you teach Year 2 students how to teach length. The lessons all start with a 10 minute mental warm up session. This is followed by the main, whole class, interactive lesson. The lessons finish with a differentiated challenge for the students to complete.
Make multiple copies of last sheet (page 13) and have the children cut out the skittle cards so they can use them to stick onto appropriate places in sheets 1 to 12 so answering the questions. Great for practising cutting skills! and gives teacher time to work with those children who need help most whilst others in class are actively engaged! I have laminated a set of these sheets and used velcro on skittle answer cards to give my least able children lots of practise!
I use a card similar to this with a Year 3 child who has high-functioning autism. His card has his photographs on, one of him working and one of him with his hand up. I use it, alongside a reward system, to encourage independence.
Lesson plan, teaching resources and differentiated work for 3 lessons

I couldn't find any materials on this when I needed to teach my year 3 class what the equals sign REALLY meant.
I have included the lesson plan I used, the 3 differentiated worksheets and a Powerpoint I made.
Also have included a homework set of resource sheets (could alternatively be used in class as a reinforcement at a later date.)
UPDATE: Have added a more challenging resource for year 3/4
Worksheets suitable for 7-9 year olds a lot of them with 3 differentiated abilities.
I have now included a large number of other word problems in this resource suitable for year 3/4 and could obviously be adapted for other year groups.
This is an entire lesson which is exploring fractions using physical resources. I used Numicon and these little fraction wall cards which were cut up for children. You could use fraction towers, anything that is a physical or visual representation.
The lesson starts with going through key vocabulary and children have to match the key words to given definitions.
The LO is : to develop our understanding of fractions using physical resources.
The three things that are covered in the lesson are:
Finding equivalent fractions
Finding fractions that make a ONE whole
