For the OCR A Level Geography topic of Changing Spaces Making Places (Human Interactions paper), these are two comprehensive case studies of Brussels, Belgium and Aleppo, Syria to meet the criteria of the required 'two contrasting place profiles'. Both case study documents are roughly 30 pages long, and contain detailed information under each of the sub-headings given in the specification. These are:
- the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and political characteristics, as well as the built and natural environments
- the past and present connections that embed the place at regional, national, international and global scales
The documents contain maps, diagrams, photographs, statistics and written text to cover all of the above criteria.
We have given this resource directly to students (largely to save time with them researching their own information) and then assessed them on the content. This also allows more time in the classroom to discuss evaluative comments (e.g. which characteristic is most defining etc...) rather than data-gathering.
