N.B In our school we teach each unit of the course in both a chronological (train view) and synthesis (helicopter view). 4 time periods for each of the 4 themes are taught over 3-4 lessons, linked to a key hypothesis that feeds into a review lesson at the end of each mini unit. This then enables us to compare and contrast periods and synthesise at regular intervals. We teach the interpretation module in the last part of the year.
We mainly use textbooks Heinnemann Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 and Access to History Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992.
