Analyzing Characters - George & Lennie - this guided character analysis activity facilitates comparison and contrast of the protagonists of the novel - George & Lennie.
The Novel in Context - Migrant Workers Then & Now - this comprehensive activity uses an excellent documentary about the context of Of Mice and Men (available on YouTube, links etc. included) - as a basis for a listening/video comprehension. Starting with a focus of migrant workers in Salinas, California in the 1920s and 1930s, this activity interweaves history, biographical information about Steinbeck with eye-witness accounts, interviews, and extracts from the novel to paint a comprehensive picture of the context of composition and the timeless qualities of this literary masterpiece.
Teacher’s Guide - Model Answers + Commentary + Analysis - This is a comprehensive teacher’s guide for Part One of the novel, and it includes model answers for all the activities as well as a detailed plot summary and analysis of Part One, designed for teachers who are new to the novel, or veterans who wish to gain fresh insights, as well as for students working independently in a home-schooling setting or in a distance learning environment.

One of my favorite novels to teach, I've revisited and revised my *Of Mice and Men* resources and included a comprehensive range of activities for each of the six parts of the novel. Each unit focuses on different aspects worth teaching (and standards-aligned). A comprehensive table of contents can be found in the preview. Some examples of the activities included in each unit are: **1. Comprehension & Close Reading Questions** for each chapter of Of Mice and Men. **2. Let's Get Quizzical! - Quote Hunt Quiz** for each chapter (a great way to quickly review comprehension and reading with students, these quote hunt quizzes can be used as a springboard for close reading and other activities. **3. The Novel In Context** - These activities focus on various aspects of the novel's context of composition and interpretation, including a biography of John Steinbeck, activities centered around migrant workers of the Salinas Valley and California of the 1930s and now, the role of women in the 1930s America, racism in the Deep South, etc. **4. Analyzing Characters / Conflicts / Themes / Setting / Figurative Devices / Symbols** etc. - these are a range of guided close reading activities; each focuses on different literary aspects of the novel, selected as most appropriate for each chapter. A great way to facilitate a closer look at key aspects of this literary masterpiece and to practice key close reading and inference skills. **5. Creative Writing Tasks** - a range of creative writing prompts and tasks for each chapter, allows your students to engage with the story, characters, main ideas, etc. of the story in a more personal, creative and empathetic manner. **6. From Page to Stage to Film** - these activities allow for various remediations of the story; students are prompted to write scripts, create storyboards, think about filming and cinematography for the novel, or to draw caricatures. These activities are designed to engage students in a different, more creative, visual manner with the novel. **7. Discuss & Debate Activitites** - these guided discussion/debate activities provide prompts, guidance, and further input to teach various speech acts that are ideally connected with this story and to engage critically with important debatable issues of the novel; whether holding persuasive speeches and learning about rhetorical devices, engaging in critical discussions, Socratic seminars, or formal debates, these activities offer students plenty of opportunities to voice their opinions and to find their own voice. **8. Teacher's Guide (Model Answers + Commentary + Analysis)** - Each unit of work (for each chapter) includes a comprehensive teacher's guide, which itself includes model answers for all the activities as well as a detailed plot summary and analysis of the respective chapter, designed for teachers who are new to the novel, or veterans who wish to gain fresh insights, as well as for students working independently in a home-schooling setting or in a distance learning environment. 9. A two-part whole-book assessment for* Of Mice and Men*, comprising of the following: **a. Quiz with Multiple Choice & Short Answer Questions** - A range of multiple choice and short answer questions tests knowledge of the plot, characters, setting, figurative devices, etc. **b. Whole-Book Essay Test Questions & Assessment Rubric** - A range of essay questions that students can choose from to respond to in the form of a longer essay. A detailed rubric with assessment criteria is included. **c.
