This is one of a series of twelve fictional case-studies, featuring cartoon characters describing their experience of a celebration in a German-speaking country.

  • Each author-illustrated case study covers the origins of the festival plus its social significance today.
  • Each case-study is written for GCSE (Year 11) pupils and Year 12 A Level German studies.
  • Festivals feature on both the GCSE and the A Level syllabus. The case studies and the author notes take into account the type of questioning techniques used in both examinations.
  • Each case-study relates to a different month of the calendar year.
  • Each case-study comprises a cartoon illustration of the central character, a story in German about this character’s experience of a German festival, a vocabulary list to support comprehension of the story, a comprehension exercise and answers, a podcast recording of the story read by a German native-speaker, a suggested writing task and a selection of Youtube/internet links for further exploration of the festival theme.
  • There is sufficient material in a case-study for 2 or 3 lessons of exploring the story and the festival themes, or it could be used as an end-of-term project.
