Step on to Paulet Island. Recognise the wildlife - the abundance of penguins. Visit the pile of rocks on the higher ground. Look at the slopes of the island interior and recognise the volcanic origin.This unit is the first in a series of 5. It deals with the formation of this Island in Antarctica using maps and diagrams. It can form the opening unit to link with following units with focus on MAP INTERPRTATION (PART 2); LARSEN'S HUT (PART 3); WILDLIFE SURVIVAL (PART 4) and CONSERVATION ISSUES (PART 5) These units can be used at a basic level as awareness units or at higher levels for a more in depth analysis. Each unit stands alone but can be linked with others in the series. Unit 1 has a focus on the climatic and physical environment. If you want to study a cold environment, Paulet Island is worth a visit.
