PE NEW KS3 TRACKER LINKED TO NEW GCSE PE

This tracker allows you to track progress through KS3 using 1-9 with fine grades. What is really useful about this tracker is that you can use it to help decide if students are suitable for the new GCSE structure. This tracker is linked to the new AQA GCSE course but could be adapted for other exam boards.

My school uses STEPS which are the same as 1-9 fine grading. The tracker converts each step fine grade to a percentage so when you enter the students step it will convert this to a percentage. For the theory section it will convert marks out of 100% to a grade out of 5% for each of the four theory tests.

The tracker deals with two year groups from KS3. So if your school has a 2 year KS3 it is already set up for Year 7 and 8. If you have a three year KS3 then track through Year 8 and 9.

The AQA GCSE requires students to use 3 sports (1 individual and 2 team or 2 individual and 1 team). The tracker will select the best two team and best two individual sports. Each sport has a 20% weighting on the tracker. This gives you a total of 80%. The tracker allows for 20% theory tests broken down into 4 tests over two years each weighted at 5%. There is also room to track activities that you may do that are not available for assessment at GCSE level. This part of the tracker has no percentage weighting.

The idea behind this tracker is you will be able to identify early the 3 most likely best sports and which students are most likely able to cope with the theory side of the course.

If you purchase this tracker feel free to adapt it to suit your department needs. My department finds this invaluable and uses it to inform senior management, parents at parents evening/options evening and to have really useful informed conversations with students about progress and suitability for PE courses.
