These pre tests and post tests have been developed by numeracy leaders working with a whole staff across all years to give you a clear picture of exactly how a student is performing across each of the key stages for place value. Uses a range of original and colourful images of real-life objects and common classroom maths materials, tens/hundreds frames, charts and number lines, closed and open-ended arithmetic and real-world scenario questions.
Short and Easy to Run (30mins and 1 double-sided page per student only)
From our experience, we suggest giving pages 1-2 to students up to grade 4. Print pages 2-3 for students up to year 6. That means each student only needs to complete one double-sided A4 page, yet this gives you a full picture of their development from reception to year 6!
Aligned to the UK National Curriculum
For UK teachers, these tests align to the National Curriculum stages, as does the marking tool.
Easy to Mark Free Formula-Based Spreadsheets
There are free, quick-to-use spreadsheets also included that match this test to your year level's key standards - it has automated formulas for quick marking for you. Simply enter '0' for the box to turn red, '1' for a half-correct response (box will turn yellow), and '2' for a fully correct response (box turns green). It also calculates students' scores (no pesky counting ticks) and gives you a very clear picture of whole-class areas of strength and gaps.

These have worked extremely well at our school in not only assessing students' progress from their pre- to post-test, but also for planning for differentiation and ensuring consistent teaching targets across multiple year levels and stages. Our whole region is also using them. Once you download these, feel free to edit or adapt anything to your school - but ultimately, maths is maths wherever you are around the world.
