A great mental and oral starter activity in a Word format to develop time intervals. Put a time in the centre of the web and apply each of the time instructions to it. The aim is to build up speed and develop strategies with a range of times. There is also a challenge web for L5 children
These webs can be laminated and used by the children or up on the whiteboard.
They explore tables to x6 (although you could easily adapt this beyond x6) and the range of language and ways 'we can say a multiplication calculation'.
Children cannot really say they know their tables inside and out unless they know all the forms it may come in.
Mathematical explanations often cause so much difficulty. Children need regular opportunities to explain orally and then from L3 in written form. I put this booklet together to look at some of the common misconceptions children have within each block of the Renewed Framework and explored them through mathematical statements and misconceptions.
There are x6 statements/questions for KS1 and x12 for KS2. Take one statement during a main lesson or plenary and explore it using some of the strategies outlined in the book.
I hope you will find ir useful!
