This presentation contains a complete poetry lesson based on days of the week . A tutorial in PowerPoint that provides several examples of poetic composition with a grammar focus on Proper Nouns and Adjectives.
It can be amended and extended easily to include adverbs and similes for older learners as well as adapted for months of the year. It can be also themed if required e.g. seasonal sentences.
The clear structure provides a writing frame for more hesitant writers and can be easily extended for more secure learners.
'Active Task' opportunities are given throughout the lesson to engage children with the grammar points and composition of each line.
I have provided clear learning intentions and the success criteria for display and reference.
In addition, I have provided an editing sheet so the teacher can clearly outline what is needed to be successful as well as a smaller version for the children to use . There is also pictorial prompt bank provided to support less secure learners.
I have found placing grammar within a poetry context helps reinforce teaching and learning. I have uploaded several slide shots so teachers can view the resources more fully.
Totally versatile - enjoy with your young writers! I would be delighted if you would provide feedback.
