Essay and multiple choice tests are not an option in Pre-K. You're doing great just getting them to write their first and last name on a paper. As a teacher and lover of cold hard proof I have created a spreadsheet to help you assess your prekindergarten students on the reading and math skills you are trying to instill.

Pre-K assessments are done one-on-one. For alphabet recognition, you show them a random letter card one at a time asking for the letters name and sound. This spreadsheet allows you to record the number of LETTER NAMES each student recognizes and in return you get their percentages color-coded for quick referencing. There is a separate column for LETTER SOUNDS and RHYMING WORDS as well. The rhyming word columns are meant to be customized to the exact number of words you are testing for. There is a shaded box where you enter the number of words you tested for. Then you enter the number correct for each student to receive their color-coded percentages.

I have also included a page specifically for SPANISH teachers. On the Spanish page you can record results for 29 Letter Names tested and 30 Letter Sounds tested. If your school tests for a different number, please let me know and I can make you a Special template.

The MATH pages can be customized just as the Rhyming is. By default it records results for 25 Numbers for PK4, 10 Numbers for PK3, 8 Shapes and 10 Colors.

The spreadsheet has space to record for 8 testing periods, about once a month for one school year.

This does require that you do have Microsoft Excel already.
