This gorgeously illustrated Unit prepares students for changes to the GCSE for 2017, including Victorian period fiction, non-fiction and poetry extracts sensitively abridged to lower the reading age to 12-13 so that KS3 students can access and enjoy these fascinating literary heritage texts.<br />
The arrangement of texts includes study by topic: character, place, plus major themes of the period, from consumer culture, colonialism, the god-like narrator, science fiction and fantasy. It includes major poems, simplified. The unit sets literature in its period.<br />

The quiz can be used in lessons and completed individually or in teams, in form time, whole-school or across year groups ... any variation will work. These are differentiated spelling lists for a junior or primary school, and there is a file here which explains exactly how it could work in your school. It means each child has exactly the right spelling list for them regardless of age. This was a very popular resource with over 100 ratings and 5 stars. Lots of schools have adopted it and I've had very positive feedback from teachers, but took me all summer to make and so I thought I'd start to charge for it. It encourages independence as the children test each other at the end of the week. There are enough spelling lists on one A4 sheet to last a term. The lists start with cvc words and phonic sounds, progressing to very challenging words. They also contain all the High Frequency Words. I have used the attached resources for pair/group work to practice punctuation in a more active way. I have given the pupils A3 or sugar paper and marker pens and asked them to write out the passage from the board, adding in the correct punctuation. They have then corrected it as a class using the IWB. At the end of the lesson the worksheet has served as a test or recap to check they have taken it all in. The exercises gradually get harder and more complex providing progressive differentiation.
A set of 18 worksheets where the children need to add the capital letters and full stops. The children read the sentences which have been carefully selected so the children can use their phonics skills. They can then either add the punctuation or write out the sentence including the punctuation. The sheets range from single sentences to simple paragraphs.
I created this to stretch my Year 10 class, most of whom will be taking the Higher paper next year. Students are assigned one poem from other cultures and create an artistic composition on their poem, ready to present to the class at a later date.

Fronted adverbials should now be taught from Year 3 upwards and this is a useful way in - it will also stretch talented KS2 writers.
This dice-based activity encourages children to add a wide variety of fronted adverbials to a main clause.
The game is differentiated into three different versions. In its simplest version, less confident writers can pick appropriate adverbs to open sentences. In the most challenging version writers must elaborate and include more than one adverbial at the start of the sentence. This can produce some stunning sentence work.
My class have been able to apply this skill in their own writing and I'm sure yours will too.
There is a presentation to provide your class (or any less confident teachers) with the knowledge needed to use the activity creatively.
NEW! I have added a new game 'Warrior Swords!' to develop the skill of varying the length of fronted adverbials. It is more challenging than the other 3 versions attached.
