Animation / short lesson which should be used to introduce the Reactivity Series or Group 7 Displacement Reactions. Suitable for KS3 (Year 8 or 9) Chemistry, but also an ideal recap activity for GCSE Chemistry students.

Contains amusing “couples” animations in the format of a live quiz to be used as a classroom activity (20 minutes max), where students predict what will happen to the “couple” in the compound.

Lesson plan

  • Students copy out Group 7 in their book with most and least reactive labeled (5 minutes)
  • Teacher presents first slide (showing the salt and halogen plus the addition of a new halogen e.g NaI + F2)
  • Students write out the equation and write down the product they predict
  • Teacher shows next slide with answer
  • Contains 4 examples total (max 20 minute lesson)
