A pupil profile anyone new to the room can read in a minute, a regulation page with what helps at each stage, and an energy choice board the child uses themselves, with 30 symbol cards and movable Pause cards.
When a sub, a cover teaching assistsnt or a visitor walks into the room, they rarely know how a child communicates, what they love, or what helps when things start to feel like too much. This pack puts that on one page they can pick up and read. It also gives the child a board of their own, so they can choose how to bring their energy up or down.
WHAT YOU GET
9 pages, A4.
• Cover and a one page guide, Using These Pages
• Me at a Glance: how I communicate, my yes and my no, things I love, things I find tricky, sensory likes, what helps and what to avoid
• How I Feel and What Helps: Regulated, Pre-dysregulated and Dysregulated, each with what I might look like and what helps me at that stage
• My Energy: signs my energy is low or high, and what helps it come up or down
• My Energy Choices: the child’s own board, with three choices for energy up, three for energy down, an I Choose space and a Pause button
• 30 symbol choice cards: jump, run, ball pit, a walk, quiet space, sensory room, Play-Doh, water play and more
• Movable Pause cards and blank cards for anything else the child uses
HOW IT IS BUILT
• Regulation and energy are kept separate. A child can be dysregulated and need their energy to come up, or dysregulated and need it to come down. The guide explains how to read the signs.
• Energy uses yellow and blue, so it is never confused with the regulation colours.
• Each regulation zone shows a level gauge. It is full when the child is regulated and runs low as they become dysregulated, so it shows capacity rather than a problem building up. A photo or symbol of the child can go over it instead.
• Pause belongs to the child. When they press it, everything stops and waits until they are ready.
• Only offer choices the child can actually have that day.
• Cards are 48.4 by 52 mm, the same size as the CalmNotQuiet Timetables and Transitions and Communication Boards cards, so they move between boards.
WHO IT IS FOR
Class teachers, SET teachers, SNAs and anyone covering a class with a child who needs a consistent, Neuro-Affirmative approach.
