Setting Description Introduction Y 4 5 6 Art English Sketch Fiction descriptive writing
Originally planned for a Y5 class. This is a good introduction to setting descriptions.

The children are read 2 setting descriptions, inspired by the same image. (They are both in the Word document). One is an ineffective one and one is effective.

They then listen to the effective description again and try and draw the image that is in their minds. The picture that inspired the setting description is on the flipchart so that children can compare their image.

We then discuss which words and phrases helped us to draw our sketch and why they were so effective.

The WAGOLL contains various examples of Y5 writing objectives, including parenthesis, semi-colons, subordinating conjunctions, adverbials, prepositions, etc, so it can also make a good SPaG link. The WAGOLL was written by me.

The activity is on ActivInspire. Apologies if the font is strange - we use a school font for our lessons.
