Full topic on solving equations that I used with a middle ability year 8 class, but first few lessons can be used as an introduction to algebra with year 7, and it also goes to solving equations with fractions and to set up and solve equations that can be given to any year.

All lessons include:
A starter,
lesson objectives with progress tick sheet,
so many colour coordinated, differentiated questions WITH answers.

Lesson 1:
Solving equations!
Introduction into one and two step equations to solve by the balancing method. Can be challenged further with solving simple equations with fractions and includes a peer assess worksheet.

Lesson 2:
Unknowns on both sides!
Step by step instructions on how to solve equations with unknowns on both sides. Again can be challenged with fractions in equations and a peer assessment sheet.

Lesson 3:
Solving equations with brackets!
Introduction into how to solve equations with brackets and challenges with brackets in equations with unknowns on both sides.

Lesson 4:
Expand and simplify when solving equations!
5 a day starter. Having two sets of brackets on one side and having to expand and simplify to solve as a two step equation.

Lesson 5:
Solving equations with fractions!
Add on to previous knowledge of everything we know on solving equations, but with advanced fractions, up to grade A work. Added tarsia which can be printed from PowerPoint.

Lesson 6:
Set up and solve!
Gone through algebraic terminology. Examples and questions of worded and shape questions where the equation must be set up before solved to find the unknown, then substituted back into the equation to find a missing side, angle etc.

Hope that this set of lessons comes in useful for you! If you like my lessons, or think there is something I could do to improve them, please rate or comment. Thank you! =]
