I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. My shop includes all types of resources for Spanish and French, as well as materials for English Language Arts and ELL.
These are fun activities because many of the English translations of the false cognates are so different than the meanings that students expect. The activities are great for dictionary practice, and work well for substitute teacher lessons. Examples of the 30 false cognates are: arena campo receta tuna carpeta noticia recordar The download includes: 1. One page with 30 false cognates that students must translate to English. The answer key is also included. 2. One page with 30 false cognates and 2 columns for students to complete: One with the English word that the cognate resembles, and one with the actual translation of the English word that the cognate resembles. This is to show students how vastly different many of the meanings are. The answer key is also included.
