Designed to improve Literacy, a dynamic, Teaching video combining practical class activity with embedded Literacy tasks, suitable for age 8-12.
Presented by two experienced teachers. The video links straight to your smart board, popular with both teachers and students. Teachers find the video provides enough content for a term’s topic.
** Format**
Teachers Julie and Louise deliver the animated teaching content as the students watch and listen. Then they will describe an Over To You activity, either practical or written or both, for the students to do.
Class teachers are given notes on the content and the video time line detail which specifies when to pause the video for an activity.
In addition to drama activities and techniques, writing activities are embedded throughout as task which are an integral part of the storyline. Help screens are provided to aid recall and stimulate ideas.
Class teachers find that this exciting approach motivates students to truly express themselves and importantly to transfer the practical activity into writing.
The video is also a great support for teachers who recognise the power of a dynamic teaching approach but would like some direction to boost their confidence.
Story
Three friends discover a tumble-down old mansion house with an amazing tower. Inside a cobweb strewn parlour leads to a spiral stair - to that tower!
Inside the tower room, the door locks itself and they are a bit scared now. Before their eyes emerge some strange images - the spirits of the house!
The friends listen to the tales of the spirits. Will they be allowed to leave or are they involved in the story that has entrapped the spirits here at Stokelake for all these years?

This Over To You Programme motivates and helps students to write a scary, suspenseful stories which can be done as caption and picture or as creative narratives.

"We are LOVING it ! Great vocabulary modelled in the video. This prompted good discussion about taking our time to choose the right vocabulary when on to the written element and not rushing it.
They were excited and engaged throughout including the writing session. Reluctant writers were focused on task. There’s more time to think about making it better (vocabulary/ exploring advanced punctuation) because they already have their ideas in their head before writing.
The help screen with vocabulary and reminders is really useful for chapter one so we wrote our own one for chapter two today."
