Teaching children to edit and self – assess

This is a difficult skill to master and one which we tend to hope children will just pick up as they move through school. However – as with everything – a scaffold to support this can make a lot of difference. A simple ABC structure guides children through the process of reflecting on and evaluating their own written work by thinking about audience and attitude, basic skills and then sentence construction and use of conjunctions. It can also be used to structure marking criteria.
