Testing for Diabetes
Clinistix and a blood testing meter are needed for this practical. Spike some oxylated Horse blood with glucose and make up some 'urine&' using water and food colouring. Have students test urine using the clinistix and blood using the meter - Type I +ve blood and urine. Type II - +ve blood, normal - both blood and urine negative (see Powerpoint). I also tested my own blood at start of lesson, then drank a bottle of coke and tested repeatedly throughout the lesson - graphing results on the board along the way.
