A 4 - 5 week scheme of work using famous speeches to explore Aristotle’s three lines of argument: ethos, logos and pathos. Speeches are taken from a range of famous figures, from Martin Luther King and Barack Obama to Emma Watson and Malala Yousafzai. A variety of rhetorical devices are taught each week, moving this scheme away from ‘AFOREST’ to more advanced rhetorical techniques and how they can be used effectively in writing to argue and persuade. The scheme leads towards a writing assessment where students write their own speeches. A powerpoint and student workbook are included.
