The bush fire season in the Summer of 2019-2020 will probably be remembered as the most extensive and extreme. Bush fires raged across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. Their severity and impact hit world headlines and the recovery from devastation will take years. In South Australia the Cudlee Creek bush fire took almost a month to bring under control. Part 1 in this series takes students near the Cudlee Creek origin point to understand the fire’s impact on a forestry reserve; a vineyard and an apple orchard. Students will be able to see the devastation. Attachments sheets can act as a summary and there is opportunity for students to present their ideas on the cause of extreme fires and provide some suggestions on how the severity and impact of future bush fires might be reduced.
Linked titles will further focus on bush fires. Part 2 will visit a Horse Agistment property affected by the Cudlee Creek fire. Part 3 will take students over to Kangaroo Island which was severely damaged by several fires.
