This is a history unit aimed at Y6 or Upper KS2. The PPT has three lessons within it concerned with the development of trade routes across the world. Each activity is for a lesson of 1 hour. Although the last activity (research based) could be extended if appropriate. The first part, gives the children information about the history and reasons for growth and development of trade, eliciting ideas from them on how this has changed in the current day. The second activity develops their understanding of maps and information, developing their ability to create questions from answers. The last activity prompts children to research an area of the Silk Route. Differentiation is achieved through outcome and, in the last lesson, by the choice of questions given to particular groups. The most able could even develop their own question, from the film shown in the input. It encourages a wide range of thinking skills and great team work.
