The disastrous bush fires during the summer of 2019-2020 were finally out after raging for almost a month. Take your students to the fire-affected areas and see the impact. Use the 5 attachments (colour or black and white) to involve students in considering questions and providing answers. These can be used as in-class screen activities or set as individual work sheets. These fires have been the most disastrous in the Island’s history. They seriously affected the two main economic assets of the island - primary production and tourism. Find out the impact on sheep and cattle and see why the wildlife of the island was threatened.
This unit leads into a follow-up unit on recovery - a story that is still in the process.
