Thomas Jefferson Builds a Library
Thomas Jefferson was the writer of the Declaration of Independence. He was the third president of the United States. This biography used as a read aloud shows the importance of reading in the making of a famous person. Reading this book will help students think more about reading a variety of books as they make personal connections. Students will also learn about the Library of Congress and interview the school librarian to find out how the school library is organized. Students will choose two traits about Thomas Jefferson and find evidence from this book, proving these traits are well chosen. As a culminating activity, students can record fifteen events from Thomas Jefferson’s life and make a Timeline on-line. This is a wonderful book to start the year off in third through fifth grade!
