"When all my dreams are crimes
I can't stand facing them
Now who will come
To wash away my sins?" - My Empty Room (Queensryche)
As a piece of adolescent literature, Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen, hits upon each and every note one could hope for in a good story. From an initially unlikable protagonist, to the suffering victim who just can’t let go; the story’s plot weaves itself
into the reader’s mind. Additionally, the island itself, while the main setting, could also be considered a character of sorts. It’s relentless and will not ease up for anyone or anything. In the end, Touching Spirit Bear is a magnificent work of Realistic Fiction.
