This is the 5th in a set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods Section of the Psychology A level exam.

The stimulus provides information about an observational study in a prison to compare aggressive acts by prisoners in either a Government run or privately run prison.

This paper tests:
Type of observation
Hypothesis Direction
Writing a Null Hypothesis
Operationalising behavioural categories
Addressing lack of informed consent
Identification and justification of sampling techniques
Assessing reliability of data
Calculation of percentage increase
Identification and justification of a suitable inferential stats test
Testing for significance using a critical values table
The purpose of content analysis
Explanation of how to carry out a content analysis
Design a study (12 marks) (A correlation study including information on research method, variables, hypothesis writing, procedure, assessment of reliability of data, descriptive and inferential stats)
