A full unit of work on Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, designed for AQA English Language and Literature A level, but can be used with minimal adaptation for any A level class.
28 full lesson PPTs (for lessons between 1-2hrs in length) guide students through the entire novel, with an initial focus in the first 8 lessons on ‘bridging the gap’ between GCSE and A level, through enforcing core skills such as analytical paragraph writing, close language analysis, word classes etc. A range of activities are included in each lesson including debates, evidence hunts and groupwork, alongside numerous opportunities for focused close reading of extracts as a class/pair/individual. Stretch and challenge activities marked with a golden star on PPTS.
UPDATES - an A3 revision wallchart (for all of AS level langlit) to guide students through revision tasks + a very comprehensive (5+ pages) list of challenging terminology divided by language level to use to make revision flashcards etc.
